The Cannon that is at the boat Basin is a colombiad the cannon was implaced at Fort Wadsworth which is located accross the varenzanno narrows from Fort Hamilton. The Gun was placed there just before the Civil war sometime between 1850 and 1859. At the time of the civil war there were three forts there, Wadsworth, Hamilton and Lafeyette. The Gun was moved to East Rockaway I think in the 19teens by the owner of the White Cannon hotel which became the White Cannon night club after the first fire there. The Cannon would have been black originally but it was painted white by the hotel. After the spanish american war the army started to replace the guns installed at coastal batteries and they sold them and or junked them. I hope the infor helps.
