But seriously.. Italian obscuro-prog and Immortal Funk Soul aside, I'm definitely with "Calimetal" or whatever.
Korn is vapid, lyrically, but they have good SOUND that SELLS records. They are smart. I admire them in this respect. The "harder" bands that clog up a lot of radio airplay are garbage. I compare them to Molly Hatchet, in that these type of bands have finally managed to attach themselves to the major music trend of the moment at the ABSOLUTE last second, and then they fall off when something else comes along. Slipknot? No. Stain'd??! Hell no. Korn, at least, casts off the "rap-rock" imagery they are associated with by constantly innovating their sound. "Issues" is the most UN-Korn release of Korn's career. It is a step in the right direction, I believe. Plus, they have STAYING power.

(But.. with the rapid-fire trend-fucking of this frightening day and age, though, it is difficult to predict the staying power of ANY musical act.
But I digress.)

Bizkit, Kid Rock, and all that shit will be as culturally relevent as Right Said Fred in a couple of years. Korn, I think, will last a little longer, because they are making smart business decisions.

Aesthetic vs. Grip(p)

I say "money money money" ANY day of the f'n week.
I can make "art" later, when I'm swimming around in my money vault like Scrooge McDuck. Fuck art. Fuck all!
There is no art. There is only entertainment, and the (lots of) money to be made from entertaining. This is all that counts.
