Hello,
Just a short note to let you know that I was in the 261st at Phu Hiep (Tuy Hoa) from March 18, 1967 to April 17, 1968 (might have these dates a little off but close enough). I was originally assigned to the company in July of 1966 at Ft. Hood, Texas. They were forming to ship out to RVN. The ship dates kept getting postponed and they kept sending us home on temp. leave. It was great. My parents were begining to think I was making it all up. Finally, in March of 67 we shipped out by train from Ft. Hood to San Diago and by ship to Vung Ro Bay. There were about 300 of us G.I.s and a couple thousand Marines (at least it seemed like it). Our advanced party had tents up for us and a lot of our first few months at Phu Hiep were spent filling sand bags and digging bunkers. Perminate buildings came along shortly after that. Since getting out of military, I have spent most of my life in fire service or emergency medical services. I currently work as a supervisor at the American Red Cross in Philadelphia. Hope I gave you some information you can use. I have photo of ship we went to nam on and can send it (I think) if you would like to see it. Also two or three photos of early days. Hope all is well with you.
