Here's an example of a very basic, clear, discussion forum. Since it's free, there's one banner ad displayed - which is not too bad.
Replies within the same thread get nicely stacked up. Newest subjects on top, with posts within the thread displayed oldest on top with replies in order of arrival below. I made a bunch of bogus message subjects to show you how it looks.
I have a forum just liek this one on my site for students (http://www.geoffadams.com/wwwboard), but it is currently empty - I cleaned out all of last years posts. My CGI script can be modified to add more forums - so we could put one there for faculty too - at least I know my host is going to be around a while. Here, who knows what's going to happen to this. But I think it is an easier to use, less cluttered forum than the AOL thing.
