Maybe they should make voting compulsory here, which could show up some interesting results. How much are you fined Anni? I've always voted, apart from when we were travelling around, when we voted by proxy. I remember one year when we were in York I voted for one party in the local elections but a totally different party in the general, and one person I was talking to in the polling station thought it very odd. I explained that in local elections I voted for the person, in general elections I voted for the party that I thought would do the most good, which to me made total sense. If you think the local Conservative is a total prat and the Liberal one is a good egg, why shouldn't you vote for the Liberal? Note I don't say LibDems as in those days it was bit more clear cut and there were no LibDems. If you think that the Conservatives are better for the General (and I certainly did whilst in York I think virtually the whole of the military voted for Maggie as she had announced that the military would at last get a decent pay rise, and having lived a bit too close to the border line for a long time, with a lot of squaddies being on benefits as the pay wasn't enough to live on, she was definitely the squaddies' favourite) then that's how you vote. Our MP when we first moved to Norfolk was a fairly local woman and would do the rounds of the villages, good egg, Gillian Shepherd who was the Minister for Education, and the one we've got now but whose name I can't remember is also very active in the region, including sitting in on some Parish Council meetings when she can, especially when there are some very contentious matters being discussed such as local policing and road safety and whether the school is viable, which thank heavens it is as it is a very good school, but some of the smaller villages have virtually lost their schools as so many children come to the one here. Old fashioned school, where manners are taught.
