I was in Gaynes Hall from Aug '71 to July '72 !! 11 months of a 6 to 2 sentence..Few Governors reports extended my holiday..
One from that little Scottish screw nick-named JOCK THE BLOCK..T here was a pal there who I used to joke about with who was Mexican ..
Jock heard me call him a ''Mexican Bastard'' jokingly..but still nicked me !!
I was doing the ONC Business Studies Course ..
and set fire to someone in the classroom..
well paper stuck to his back really !!
Demoted on to the Farm Party and pulled mangel wersals? etc !!
Was eventually rescued when I became gym orderly..
We went onto become runners-up in the Bedford and District Basketball League..
Still got the trophy on show today !!
Used to get my highs in two ways !!
Was in charge of the bicycles..so the number of ''punctures'' rose dramatically as I was sniffing the rubber solution !!..
Some lads went out on courses and used to bring 'dry cleaning fluid' back !! Wow !!Fell asleep [passed out] one night and layed on the cloth during the night..woke up next day with a big patch on my back and all the skin gone where the fluid had burned all the skin away..
Had too suffer for weeks as I couldn't seek medical help..lol.!!
Christmas '71 was fun..
A few lads who had been released a couple of weeks earlier broke into an off-licence and came back at night with a load of booze !! We were hiding it in the fire extinguishers and anywhere we could..Most got found though..I did a runner with someone else.had only been there about 10 days then..
Someone else who did one, hadn't..
They hid in the loft in the chapel for days, had a stash of food,someone gave them bits as well..Thought they would lie low till the search died down..lol..
Couple of lads MICK J and another broke into the canteen and was selling the baccy cut-price ..lol..
Friday nights..custard creams..was it 2 for 5 or 10p??
Mind you the amount of money that used to be sneaked in during visits..The barons of course you to charge to break the notes into smaller coins !!
I seem to remember ''rumours'' of someone trying it on with the Farm Managers daughter..and getting shipped out within hours !!
Hope you enjoyed these memories..Let me know and I'll think about adding more !!
I'm 60 now incidently, been out of trouble since ..1976 ..!!
Did Borstall [or a previous visit to Aldington Detention Centre in Kent 'Oct-Dec '69] or remand in Wandsworth, Probation or such do the trick ?>?
NO..NONE OF THEM ..IT WAS BECAUSE I WANTED TO..
Had had my ''fun'' done my bit and it was time to move on to the next stage of my life..
PLUS,,I got a bit wiser..nudge nudge !!!!
