  • Texas and TOPMA representin' at ADRL -- TOPMA/ADRL Fan, 12:50:34 10/26/09 Mon
Congrats to all to the TOPMA teams for their impressive showing in Ennis at ADRL. Kevin Allen driving for the Small Block Mafia, Michelle and H.T. Wilson, Steve Gorman all qualified in the XTF class. Howard Brown debuting the Nuclear Frog on 10.5s got in the show as an alternate. Doug Riesterer qualified #7 in the Pro Nitrous class and ran an awesome 3.926 in a losing effort against Burton Auxier in the first round.

In the Pro Extreme class Wes Johnston qualified #4 running 3.790 and in earlier qualifying he had a 3.885 at 206.32 mph!! Wes beat Travis Swearingen in the first round and lost in the second round to Todd Tutterow. Steve Wiley qualified #8 with a career best e.t. and mph of 3.821 sec. at 198.12 mph, Steve lost to Bubba Stanton in the first round. Gene Hector qualified #11 running a career best 3.838 sec. pass. Gene lost to Von Smith in the first round. Ken Thomas qualified #15 and beat Cody Barklage, the #2 qualifier in the first round, but lost to Kelly Martin in the second round.

It was a great racing weekend at the LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals. I’m sure all of the Texas teams will be looking forward to competing with all of the big dogs of the ADRL again in March in Houston.

Mother nature was still cooperating in the rain department however, it was a little nippy when the sun went down. 16 teams rolled into the concrete palace and here's how it all went down:

    #1 Ken Thomas - 3.909 at 187 mph
    #2 Michelle Wilson - 4.261 at 157 mph
    #3 Rickey Cate - 4.273 at 170 mph
    #4 David Baldwin - 4.299 at 165 mph
    #5 Heath Harvey - 4.303 at 170 mph
    #6 Jackie Deaver - 4.342 at 167 mph
    #7 Steve Gorman - 4.356 at 164 mph
    #8 Todd Moyer - 4.390 at 131 mph
    #9 Stanley Morton - 4.578 at 153 mph
    #10 Chuck Poindexter - 4.635 at 152 mph
    #11 Eddie Roach - 4.762 at 149 mph
    #12 Jeremy Brown - 5.039 at 103 mph
    #13 Gaylen Smith - 6.769 at 61 mph
    #14 Wes Johnston - 8.806 at 49 mph
    #15 Marty Neely - 9.085 at 49 mph
    #16 Steve Wiley - NT

    First Round:

    Heath Harvey (W) 4.354 at 168 mph (.109 RT)
David Baldwin (RU) 8.640 at 50 mph (.023 RT)

David had the light, but the Butler Motorsports Corvette went into tire shake at the hit of the throttle and it was all over for him giving the upset win to Heath Harvey.

    Rickey Cate (W) 4.282 at 168 mph (.096 RT)
Stanley Motron (RU) 4.980 at 145 mph (.047 RT)

Stanley Morton filled in for Jackie Deaver who torched the head during qualifying and was forced to withdraw. Rickey was on a great looking run down the LenMar Motorsports lane which is the best run on the Poolman's Camaro to date.

    Jeremy Brown (W) 4.198 at 173 mph (.119 RT)
Michelle Wilson (RU) 9.399 at 46 mph (.095 RT)

Jeremy Brown driving Perry Dunn's Trans Am was the 4th alternate filling in for Steve Gorman who sheared all the bolts off the torque converter during qualifying and was forced to withdraw from the competition. Jeremy gets the major upset win over the #2 qualifier and advances to the semi-finals. Not bad for thinking your night was over huh Perry?

    Ken Thomas (W) 3.998 at 182 mph (.092 RT)
Todd Moyer (RU) 4.352 at 163 mph (.033 RT)

Todd was down from Houston making some test laps for the upcoming LenMar Motorsports/ADRL World Finals and picking up some cash while he was at it. He was getting some bugs worked out and Ken was on another clean pass in the LenMar Motorsports lane and claims the win.

    Heath Harvey (W) 4.368 at 168 mph (.039 RT)
Ken Thomas (RU) 5.924 at 88 mph (.077 RT)

WOW, another upset win for Harvey as this one was HUGE. Heath takes out the #1 qualifier and advances to the finals.

    Jeremy Brown (W) 4.214 at 172 mph (.102 RT)
Rickey Cate (RU) 6.393 at 75 mph (.216 RT)

Jeremy also gets another upset win when Rickey gets into trouble and has to lift. Jeremy Brown was #12 qualifier and he is going to the finals with lane choice. Not bad considering.......

    Finals:

    Heath Harvey (W) 4.169 at 176 mph (.014 RT)
Jeremy Brown (RU) 8.083 at 43 mph (.218 RT)

Not sure what happened to Jeremy on the starting line but it didn't matter much to Heath who had a great reaction time and best run of the night for him claiming the win. The rods let go on Perry Dunn's car and Jeremy just had to watch Heath cruise on by for the win.

Congratulations to Heath Harvey for your first TOPMA win and to Jeremy Brown and the Perry Dunn Racing team for your runner-up finish.

I would also like to congratulate and welcome Steve Wiley and Jimmy Hector to the 3-second club. Earlier in the day on a test run, Steve clocked a 3.90 at 195 mph which was a costly run as it kicked about 5 rods out of the motor. I'm sure they will be scrambling to get the motor back together for the upcoming LenMar Motorsports/ADRL race next weekend in Ennis, TX.

Last night the LenMar shop was partly cloudy from the fog that lingers around after you fire up one of these blown monsters but it wasn't from the '57 Hellair. Darrell & Randall Reid's Camaro came to life last night around 9:30 or 10:00. Once all the fine tuning was done to the Reid's Camaro, team TBH went to work on the bare engine block sitting in the machine shop that goes in the Hellair. I left the shop around midnight and they were just gapping the rings so I figured it was going to be a long night. Just about an hour ago, the '57 Hellair also came to life so now all we need is mother nature to cooperate so that the testing can commence! Please somebody, do a rain rain go away dance....we have a race to prepare for!

Mother nature was in a much better mood this weekend. The sun was shining all day on Friday and the humidity was gone. The air got real good when the sun went down. Lucky #13 teams showed up and the battle was on. Jackie needed to have a great night in order to secure his spot in the LenMar shootout next month. David Baldwin was fighting to stay in the top 8 and Michelle Wilson was fighting to get back into the top 8. After 2 rounds of qualifying, here's how everything unfolded:

    #1 Ken Thomas - 4.028 at 176 mph
    #2 Gaylen Smith - 4.200 at 153 mph
    #3 Heath Harvey - 4.228 at 167 mph
    #4 Michelle Wilson - 4.291 at 164 mph
    #5 Gene Hector - 4.348 at 145 mph
    #6 Jackie Deaver - 4.355 at 163 mph
    #7 Steve Gorman - 4.362 at 165 mph
    #8 Rickey Cate - 4.435 at 157 mph
    #9 David Baldwin - 4.697 at 144 mph
    #10 Barry Wade - 4.935 at 121 mph
    #11 Chuck Poindexter - 5.045 at 136 mph
    #12 Todd Moyer - 5.241 at 94 mph
    #13 Steve Wiley - 8.724 at 57 mph

    First Round:

    Gene Hector (W) 4.107 at 172 mph (.044 RT)
Michelle Wilson (RU) 6.886 at 65 mph (.039 RT)

Gene gets the upset win while Michelle was having problems off the line and had to abort the run.

    Jackie Deaver (W) 4.324 at 165 mph (.098 RT)
Heath Harvey (RU) 4.734 at 117 mph (.058 RT)

Despite having the starting line advantage, Heath Harvey used up his whole lane trying to catch Jackie but was unsuccessful as his car came dangerously close to the wall and he aborted the run. Meanwhile, Jackie was in the House of Hot Rods/LenMar Motorsports lane on a very consistent run and takes the win. This was the first step into having a great night to secure his spot in the top 8.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.185 at 156 mph (.098 RT)
Steve Gorman (RU) 4.380 at 165 mph (.208 RT)

Gaylen dusted off the Cuda after his meeting with the wall in Houston last weekend and earlier in the day, the resurrected Hell Fish ran a 4.00 on a test run. When he unclutched it against Gorman, he disappeared into the clutch dust. We got the car back to the trailer and changed clutch packs hoping that fixed our problem.

    Ken Thomas (W) 3.949 at 181 mph (.111 RT)
Rickey Cate (RU) 5.114 at 89 mph (.125 RT)

Ken Thomas makes a great run meanwhile Rickey was going for a ride in the other lane. After talking with the track officials, I was told that the engine diaper strap got wrapped around the steering and Rickey could not keep the car from sliding down the wall so unfortunately there is a concrete strip running down the whole driver's side of the car. Glad you are okay Rickey!!

    Semi Finals:

    Jackie Deaver (W) 4.368 at 163 mph (.029 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 4.690 at 125 mph (.133 RT)

Okay, remember when I told you we changed out the clutch packs hoping that fixed our problem? Well, it didn't. We must have received a bad batch of clutch discs because this clutch pack did the same thing. Gaylen disappeared into the clutch dust and was going nowhere while Jackie was on a mission securing his spot in the top 8 for the shootout as he takes the win against the boss (LOL).

    Ken Thomas (W) 4.755 at 109 mph (.197 RT)
    Gene Hector (RU) NT

Gene started his burnout but something "popped" on the small block mafia car and died. I believe the crew was going to try and push-start the car but the track starter waived Ken on to stage. Luckily for Ken he was on a single because he lost traction and had to abort the run. This gave Jackie lane choice in the final round.

    Finals:

    Ken Thomas (W) 4.126 at 150 mph (.064 RT)
Jackie Deaver (RU) 4.733 at 154 mph (.006 RT)

Jackie was going for the win as he had a huge holeshot advantage. Jackie was in and out of the throttle trying to maintain his lead but Ken was in the House of Hot Rods/LenMar Motorports lane claiming the victory.

Congratulations to Ken Thomas and the entire LenMar/Thomas Motorsports team for your victory and to Jackie Deaver and the Underdawg's Revenge crew for your runner-up finish. Great job guys!

  • HMP Results - 10/10/09 -- Mrs. TBH, 09:38:42 10/12/09 Mon
Mother Nature got her way Friday night for the Kennedale race (which is re-scheduled to this Friday night Oct 16th) but decided to let us race in Houston. There was an overcast all day long but nothing falling out of the sky. 11 Pro Mod teams showed up and after two rounds of qualifying, here's how everything unfolded.

    #1 Ken Thomas - 3.961 at 180 mph
    #2 Gaylen Smith - 3.968 at 184 mph
    #3 Jeff Naiser - 4.049 at 178 mph
    #4 Doug Riesterer - 4.209 at 147 mph
    #5 Jackie Deaver - 4.377 at 142 mph
    #6 Frankie Taylor - 4.450 at 128 mph
    #7 Todd Moyer - 4.601 at 141 mph
    #8 Rickey Cate - 4.921 at 120 mph
    #9 Chuck Poindexter - 5.226 at 111 mph
    #10 Chris Smith - 7.275 at 64 mph
#11 Thomas Patterson - NT (Left before tree activated)

During 2nd round of qualifying, Gaylen and Ken took the tree and both cars made a nice run. The chutes were out on Gaylen's car in the shut down and all of a sudden the car made a right hand turn straight into the wall like he was on ice. The Bounty Hunter swiped the rear quarter panel on the Hellair and then in turn the right nose of the car hit the wall as well. Our night was over. The strut and wheel were damaged along with the zoomie. We loaded the car up and headed back to Mansfield to begin the repairs on the car. The next pair of cars right behind Ken and Gaylen was Doug and Frankie. Doug was already qualified from the first round but Frankie hit a cone during round 1 of qualifying so he was not qualified yet. Frankie takes off and teeter totters all the way down the track and right past the finish line he's sliding around and hits the left retaining wall which sends him spinning over to the right wall (in front of Doug) where he hits the right wall HARD and in turn it looked like Doug hit the back of his car as he was directly in front of him sideways. Doug was okay but there was too much damage to the front end of his car to continue. Frankie was dazed and confused and went to the hospital to get checked out. He left the hospital later that night after he checked out okay. Glad to hear that Gaylen, Frankie and Doug we're all okay but there is a lot of work to be done before next weekend.

    First Round:

    Chris Smith (W)
    Jackie Deaver (RU

Sorry, I don't have ET's because we left the track before the race ended. Chris Smith was one of the alternates that filled in for Doug Riesterer. He had not been able to get down the track during qualifying but managed to get the win over Jackie Deaver as the Underdawg's Revenge got way too much wheel speed at the hit and had to abort the run.

    Todd Moyer (W)
    Chuck Poindexter (RU)

Chuck Poindexter filled in for Gaylen Smith. Something wasn't right in the tranny and he couldn't back up so he drove it on thru and Todd got the competition bye.

    Ken Thomas (W)
    Rickey Cate (RU)

Ken is Mr. Consistency tonight. He makes another nice run.

    Thomas Patterson (W)
    Jeff Naiser (RU)

Thomas was the 3rd alternate filling in for Frankie and he advanced into the semi's.

    Semi-Finals:

    Ken Thomas (W)
    Chris Smith (RU)

    Thomas Patterson (W)
    Todd Moyer (RU)

    Finals:

    Ken Thomas (W)
    Thomas Patterson (RU)

Congratulations to Ken Thomas and the entire LenMar/Thomas Motorsports team for you victory and to Thomas Patterson for the runner-up.
