I sincerely believe that the idea of "vampire baby! WTF?!" has captured the interest of quite a few viewers and the fact is, the Darla-arc is the only thing that's moving the storyline forward. I'm not sure about the idea that less Cordelia, more Darla is the answer. I think there needs to be a balance since Darla brings such a fantastic dynamic to the Angel Investigations team.

You know, if they kill Darla off in the present, it's kind of boring to just stick her into the past. Everytime I see a flashback of Darla, I want to see her firmly in the present, at least that's how I remember feeling when I saw Darla flashbacks back in Season 1 with The Prodigal and 5x5.
