Subject: It's TIME to Support Darla/Julie

Hello everyone,

As we all know, Darla's coming back! WOOOHOOOO!

But this year, I want things to be different out there in the BTVS/ANGEL fan board/list communities. Last year we had to deal with people shouting at the top of their lungs "I hate Darla." Well, if you do that's fine. Everyone has their own opinion, but I get majorly annoyed when all these people do is call Darla names and make catty remarks without good reasons. I mean, if that's all they can do without even giving reasons, well that's just kind of sad and desperate. LOL, and no I'm not trying to be insulting but all of you understand where I'm coming from right?

For this year, we HAVE to SUPPORT Darla ANY WAY WE CAN. Why? Well, I don't know about anyone else but I don't want another "I hate Darla" atmosphere taking over the fandom while her supporters run away or keep quiet. I also don't want another glut of episodes without her like last season. I know there are plenty of people that like her but they are either scared to say anything in defense of her for fear of being flamed or just don't see the use in it. But believe me, we can make a difference.

The writers and such won't even know how many of us there are if we keep quiet.

So do you want to help? Okay, here's the plan and any suggestions are definitely welcome. I think the best way to support and defend Darla is to just basically "speak up" in approval of the character and her storyline this year on ANGEL. You don't have to necessarily reply to people that flame the character, just post your comments. If we all set a time, say immediately after an episode of ANGEL airs at these boards/lists then that way no one will feel alone. Then again we could just post at random times which probably is better and that way people can do it on their own time.

Whenever there's an episode with Darla, don't be afraid to write the writers by mail or email. They need the encouragement.

I think we have to do this. Why? Well, do you want Darla to return for the next seasons of ANGEL? Well, the writers and producers of ANGEL won't know if we don't speak up and show that we CARE about the character.


When it comes down to it I'm just sick of the "that skank" or "just stake her already!" comments because they are hallow with no reasons, just blatant name calling. I know that I'm not the only one either that's noticed this. As some else said, Darla is the writer's muse. With her have they've written some of the best ANGEL episodes of ALL TIME.

I think the safest place to post is the Angel's Soul Spoiler Board because the posters at mightybigtv.com can be pretty rude, but I'll be glad to tackle it with some other posters. =)

But also more importantly, posting at our own boards is a high priority. If a writer sees that a character's fans aren't even active on their own lists and boards then it makes us look like we don't have much interest.


I can not stress this enough people. Please DON'T allow Darla to just fade away from this show. She one of the best characters if not the best to be on this show. The writers obviously adore the character or else they wouldn't be involving her so much this year for ANGEL, but please we need to show that we support their ideas. Honestly, I don't know if I can watch this show again without Darla. She's just awesome and I'd hate to see some catty comments scare them. And not only that but she adds so much to the show. How can anyone deny that?

Also write Julie Benz. She needs to know we adore her character.

Darla's already had two appearances and I've read some "negative" noise (from specific shipper groups and the "just stake her already cause she's a vampire" club) and I can't take it anymore.


If they speak so loudly, why can't we???? What makes it so wrong for us to say something?

Nothing.

But at least, let's not be obnoxious about it. There's always a way to support without coming off as an obnoxious idiot, excuse my French.

Here's a great thread on the Buffy newsgroup about Darla being the writers' muse. It's from way back in last May. By the way, the original poster didn't like Darla to begin with, but now she does.
