Subject: He Stood at the Edge of the Earth

Mayor Guliani stood at the site of near armageddon
holding back rage, calling upon patriotism.
There, at the end of the earth, tranquility was gone.
The colors of death blending with the blood of heroism.

Times Square held its breath and shuttered in the streets.
The electronic sinage along the sidewalks convulsing the scene.
America had suddenly undergone shock therapy, its treatment not so discreet.
References to the last supper were made in prayers to all of Man's holy beings.

People costumed in religion, race, nationality suddenly took off their masks.
These people looked past their rosaries, mosques and skin
To see the larger, more grand world that could be ours if we only ask.
I'm sure that God, Allah, and all others would agree to let good win.

Lest, we not forget that our souls can become flammable
and burn with the putrid evil hidden behind victory's promising lures
Trust is a deliberate flaw in ourselves, we're too robotic and trainable
that we forget that we are all individual and once pure.

Mayor Guliani stood at the end of the earth, mourning for the fallen Towers.
Forensic teams have moved in with their own armies and weapons.
The sun no longer graces the scenery with its glistening buildings and flowers,
instead, it reveals a part of ourselves that is now missing and gone.
