Hey man, glad to hear you liked Rear Window, it's really a great one. As with most prolific artists, it's tough to choose a favorite when so many are good...I think "Strangers On A Train" is great and so is "Vertigo" the former does Creepy in an awesome way (especially one particularly head turning shot) and the latter taking a simple idea and doing it sweetly.

Also "Saboteur" and "Shadow Of A Doubt" are good (aside from the obvious classics (the birds, north by northwest, et al)...

Anyway, I heard about The Eye. I may very well rent it when I come back to Philly so yes, don't tell me any more about it.

as for recommendations, I've already told you about Jan Svankmajer but for anyone who I haven't told, you all should definitely check out his work.

I've seen "Faust" & "Conspirators Of Pleasure" ( <-- an awesome feature length movie with no dialogue) and Vol 1 of a collection of his short films. He did really great and creative stuff with stop motion back in the 60s that really inspired just about everyone else out there.

If you need a specific example, I'd say investigate The Brothers Quay. They were big big fans of Svankmajer and did some sweet stop motion stuff on their own adding a slightly dark and disturbing twist to everything and then THESE guys were a big influence on people like Fred Stuhr who did a majority of those crazy stop motion music videos for Tool.

So if you think those videos are hot, then check out The Brothers Quay (their feature "La Institute Benjamenta" is beautiful for the first half, but boring the second half)...What you should really check out of theirs is their collection of short films (which is going to be my next DVD purchase) because they are awesome and then check out Svankmajer.

Anyway, I'm rambling...that's all I've got in the way of recommendations at the moment. Other cool films

Sherman's March
David Holtzman's Diary

peace,
asif

ps - putting the link to the messageboard + leaving the away message "something new on the messageboard" is effective...but I can't think of many other ways...it's like 2 in the morning...
