Subject: What we have thus far...

I typed this up sometime this morning as a draft of the Statement of Principles that we will be getting people to sign. Havent nailed down the language just yet, but its a faairly solid sketch of what I'm thinking of for the final version:

Recent events have pushed a debate long since coming to the forefront of discussion, between government leaders and between concerned citizens across the world. The September 11th tragedy painfully highlighted the extremes that ideological conflict can come to and the fallout such struggle can have upon the innocents caught in the crossfire. In formulating a response, the United States Government and those who share their opposition to acts of terror have joined together to seek justice. In doing so, much has been spoken of the need to act as an international community to protect those vulnerable to such acts.
We, the people of the international community, share the commitment to end terror and resolve to stand against those who would perpetuate such hateful acts. Our position makes it necessary that we stand behind these principles:

1. We stand opposed to ALL terrorism, defined as...
2. Military action is to be taken only to eliminate threats to peace.
3. Economic stability is not an acceptable rationale for military action.
4. Action is taken as an international community of equals. The threat we face affects every human being on the globe.
5. The end result of our actions is the creation of a peaceful, stable, and tolerant global community.

Heres the letter made this morning:

As a close group of friends we have decided, after very little sleep and hours of discussion and debates, to try to reunite the world as a common people. We know this sounds incredibly far-fetched AND impossible, HOWEVER we are working on a plan. We can try to give you an overview as is so far. Our four letters, A. P. I. C. (Active People of the International Community) designate our goal, being a worldwide connection. Well, that is our surface goal. Our actual ambition is much more involved. The basis being to end all tragedies such as the destruction The World Trade Center, the suicide bombers in Israel a few weeks ago, the hate crimes here in the US, and other acts of terrorism and hatred around the world. Not only the US -We are searching for total understanding and unity from the world, as mankind shares a single fate, and our survival as a species depends on our ability to live together peacefully. We do not stand for anything but humanity.

But to the point- what we are requesting from you is support, and the support of any other individuals that you can get to collaborate for a cause that will help to reunite humanity. We can get back to you with more details, but we just need to know that we are supported. We will present more information as is available. This information should and will be presented in an intelligent and mature manner acceptable by all. Any notification of interest in this dire situation that affects us all would be intensely appreciated.

So keep writing up drafts and lets discuss the pros/cons of each one, etc. Give suggestions on wording and keep in mind especially the purpose of the document written (letters to organizations as opposed to press releases as opposed to the Statement) keeping your focus on audience and inntended impact.
