: ~ peering about the silent Great Hall with dark eyes....being no Frees present to beg to serve...crawling off to the warmth of th servery ~

: ~ disappearing into the chillery....slipping to the back where she wraps slender arms around the butter churn....lugging into the servery...bumping the door closed with her smooth bottom....setting it down next to one of the counter....putting a butter ladle and a bowl on the counter ~

: ~ having left the cream sitting out for a short time so it goes down to room temperature...seeing the cream does not fill more than half of the butter churn....taking the plunger in her small hands....pulling the plunger all the way up then pushing it all the way down....keeping steady and methodical motions ~

: ~ using even strokes as she pulls the plunger out and pushes it back in....turning the plunger with each revolution....halfway thru she needs to switch arms because her right one is tired....feeling the contents of the butter churn become thicker with each plunge....taking the lid of she peeks inside to see what progress she is making ~

: ~ laying the lid aside....curling slender fingers around the butter paddle....carefully scooping the floating butter off of the top of the buttermilk....placing it in the bowl while using the butter paddle she works the butter back and forth of the sides of the bowl....pouring the buttermilk out of the bowl as it comes to the surface ~

: ~ next she pours a small amount of very cold water into the bowl and works the butter like she did before...as the water becomes discolored she pours it out and pours in more cold water....she continues to work it until the water remains clear ~

: ~ thinking she is almoste done....breaking out the large container of salt....measuring out a spoonful of salt for each pound of butter....in the end though she tastes with a clean finger to make sure the right amount of salt was used ~

: ~ padding serenely round the servery she is know so familiar with....fetching several butter molds from the dry storage closet....selecting butter molds that will imprint a leaft pattern on the surface of the butter....snatching up some butter paper on her way out....arranging them on the counter....beginning to pack in the butter....once the butter is packed in she removes the false bottom and pushes the butter out of the mold and into the butter paper....wrapping the butter up as throughly as possil

: (((got the boot))) ~ heaving open the heavy wooden door of the chillery....gingerly placing the butter on the chillery shelf for use....closing the door with one long leg ~

: ~ washing the butter churn, butter paddle, bowl and butter molds throughly with soap and warm water....after rinising them of soap bubbles she wipes them dry then places them in the dry storage closet for the next time butter needs to be made ~
