Hmm. It seems that Patrick, inasmuch as the "Cartoonist" character represents him, has always put forth his plotlines as if they were improvisation. Whether or not this is true, it's the impression he gives -- and so I've always appreciated events in T&R as if they were a series of random, off-the-cuff, individually inspired ideas, very cleverly tied together, rather than a single deeply thought out and intricately plotted storyline.

And to abuse a cliche, despite the amount of effort he puts in, he also succeeds in "making it look easy." Largely by portraying his avatar as being inept (according to his other characters, anyway).
