There's a point in the comic somewhere where a large infodump of myth leaks from the Cartoonist to T&R, along with a desire to learn Spanish. That's the point where I binge-read Borges' collected short stories, translated by Andrew Hurley. Most of the main themes in T&R were already done at some point by Borges, and there's even a story of his that centers on a (non-sentient, figural) triangle and rhombus.

Yes, you should read some of his work.
