Technically, nothing. It's just a stylistic thing. Some people find it aesthetically displeasing. In the case of the comic in question, I think the Cartoonist's preposition usage gave an appropriate rhythm to the sentence, which probably would not have been as euphonious in a more serious context. (In my opinion.) (Yes, I know that's a sentence fragment. So's the thing I started this paragraph with.)
