Just read my email. Billy Peebles is telling me that Earl Mitchelle has passed away. I never knew the man as a teacher, I was not advanced enough for his classes. I do, however, have memories of him. One holiday I spent with the Walls in Chapel Hill, we hitched a ride to and from with Mr. Mitchelle. I was not excited about the idea of spending 4 hours in a car with the man, but he was actually a pleasure to be with.

Mr. Mitchelle also coached with the track team, and used to photograph us during events at the meets. After graduation when I was at home enjoying my summer, pictures of me running the hurrdles showed up in the mail with a note from Earl, "Thought you might enjoy these, Earl Mitchelle"
