She splashes and prances playfully into the water. After a bit she seems to get a wild gleam in her eye. With a great leap she thrusts herself from the clinging waves and clears the water. Landing on the beach she's off in a split second, galloping for all she's worth. Her long mane and tail soar behind her, sand sprays from beneath her churning hooves. She pulls herself up short near the human and snorts an alarm. Her nostrils flare and her ears prick forward as she studies the creature. Finally, deciding it's intent on killing her, the mare whirls around and sprints away, heading for the far side of the beach. Suddendly she stops again, so suddendly she could have been a quarter horse. If she would have been a human she would have slapped her hand against her forehead and groaned in exasperation but instead she snorts loudly, disgusted with herself. Only recently had she been brought from her wild herd to live with mankind and her flight senses are still finly atunded to danger. Silly, she thinks, that I should be afraid of a human when one comes to groom me and feed me everyday. She trots back up the beach, regaining her wind, and stops near the girl. She lowers her head and watches curiously. She flicks her tail, sending sea spray into the sand and upon her haunches.
