Subject: Poly vs SMC

Geez..., SMC was favored by 10, something I really never understood. SMC was also favored by a like amount over UCI last week. I didn't understand that one either.

I was in the stands and here's my observations:

Poly was impressive opening up the game... created a lead of about 10 before SMC came back to close within 3 (or less). Poly never relinquished and went on a mild run of their own and created a margin of 13 by half (40-27) - and for the most part had a 10 point lead through much of the 1st.

The 2nd half saw low scoring for both teams.... but more so for Poly. That 13 point lead dropped to 1 (or was it 0?) at about 47??? I forgot. Poly managed to hold off SMC and then created a margin whereas SMC needed to foul..., and couldn't convert when they had the ball. Poly finished up on SMC by 7, 59-52. Poly only scored 19 in the 2nd compared to SMC's 25.

Officiating! Offiating favored SMC. There appeared to be several no calls against SMC... and at least 2 no calls against CP. I don't rcall seeing any fouls that were not fouls... just no calls. Perhaps a couple walking calls against Poly that seeming tick-tacky.

Varnie didn't start but was in early. He played aggressive and made his presents felt. Unfortunately..., he fouled out in the 2nd half... a half that I think the Mustangs would rather forget.

Grace was impressive to me. This is relative to the past few seasons. He appeaed to know what he was doing out there and was never flat-footed.

Kitmara... I like his play early in the first half. Aggressive and seemed to be one of hte better players on the court. For some reason he was taken out of the game early and never really got back into the flow once back in. In the 2nd half he WAS flat-footed and didn't seem to know what his role was... except to perhaps draw coverage. His eyes seemed to be wide-open and had no fire in them.

Patterson reminds me of Ketchum. Anybody remember him? A blue-collar player always on the job.

Geary was impressive at the point... but did have at least 3 turnovers for carrying the ball. Two of which I know were legit... the third I don't know.
