Subject: Re: Poly Athlete in S.I. and more
In reply to: Tenaya 's message, "Poly Athlete in Sports Illustrated" on 06/ 6/03 1:54pm

Bridget Mulhern's dad, Bob, owned a popular Irish bar/restaurant for many years in San Francisco's Marina district (across the street from the Marina Safeway). If you ever went there you noticed a Seton Hall basketball jersey hanging on the wall. Bob Mulhern attended Seton Hall and was good friends with former hoops coach P.J. Carlisimo, the Warrior's coach who was choked by "Latrine Spreewell" now with the Knicks.

After Bob sold Mulhern's he and coach Carlisimo opened an Italian restaurant bar in North Beach on Green Street, east of Columbus. It has since closed. Probably too much good competition nearby. Hey! Maybe that's one reason why P.J. showed up at a Cal Poly Athletic dinner at the Embassy Suites a couple years ago.

And now Bob's daughter's in S.I. Good for her and Poly. Maybe the S.I.D. office DID submit the story and photo. While Ken Walker was A.D. he DID NOT HAVE a S.I.D.! All those stats went unrecorded. McCutcheon brought in Eric McDowell from U of New Hampshire who turned the office around and hired Jason Sullivan as an intern in about '93. Together they had to reconstruct past team records, but had a hard time finding out who lettered in what sports. When Eric left for the Warriors, Jason took over. Now Jason's gone and Eric Burdick, a longtime Telegram-Tribune sports editor, is on staff, along with Phil Webb and Media Relations Director Brian Thurmond.

Speaking of good "ink". Did anyone catch NBC's interview with Laci Peterson's family? Great exposurer for Abba's Pacific Cafe in Morro Bay, Scott and Laci Peterson's THE SHACK sports burger/bar on Foothill Blvd., and California Polytechnic's Highland Drive entrance sign....at least they the name is spelled correctly.
