Subject: Nice Job Sam Herbert and Stang Baseball

Had the opportunity to attend Sunday's baseball game at Santa Clara and the difference between the Mustangs of old under Ritch Price and the new Stangs under Larry Lee is noticeable.

Aside from Sam Herbert's grand slam early and solo shot later in the game, Lee has the team playing much better situational baseball. Some of the basics included having the power-hitters bunt runners over (rather than swinging-away), using the hit and run and advancing runners by going to the opposite field.

Pitching by starters and relievers continues to be suspect but the Stangs will win their share just on aggressiveness. One example was Corey Tallon a fairly slow moving catcher stretching a single into a double on a soft hit liner to center field. Further, Tallon (only a freshmen) did a stellar job behind the plate holding runners and blocking multiple pitches in the dirt with runners on base. He also had a much stronger arm than the Santa Clara catcher.

This is a team worth supporting. They play hard and with good fundamentals. Nice job Larry Lee. Go Stangs!
