Subject: Rigoletto

Personally, I don't really like Rigoletto as much as I enjoyed the other operas we've watched. I'm not really thrilled by the whole message of revenge. Revenge can be really satisfying and sometimes seeing revenge brought upon soemone can be very entertaining, but I really didn't find it that entertaining. I don't think that was the proper revenge for Rigoletto. I think the courtiers should've just beat the crap out of Rigoletto, rather than have the Duke rape his innocent daughter. It's true that all the other women who were raped were innocent, but I think they should have taken revenge on the Duke. This would never happen because all the courtiers have their heads stuck up the Duke's butt, but I know for a fact that if the courtiers could have done it and escaped without being caught, they would violate the Duke's wife just so he knows how they all feel (its not like the Duke would care though). I think Rigoletto was just doing his job by tormenting the husbands and fathers of the raped women and I can't see how he "took it too far" because when you're a jester, the further you take it, the more entertaining it is. I guess the reason I didn't enjoy this opera as much as I did the others is because I don't think what the courtiers did was necessary and I think they should have just done something to the Duke, the real person at fault.
