Nicole I somewhat agree wih you. Botticelli's paintings seem to put emphasis on subject matter, but I also think da Vinci does focus on subject matter, he just doesn't make it as obvious as Botticelli. It seems like he leaves interpretation up to the individual, instead of spoon feeding the meaning to us. I also think that in general, da Vinci's work is nicer than Botticelli's. It's not only appling to the eye, but also to the other four senses.
In regards to the composition of the paint, I think the reason da Vinci experimented with different methods of mixing paints was because he was trying to get the color and texture of the paint just right so that his painting would be exactly as he imagined it to be.
I'm not saying that Botticelli doesn't have talent, but personally I think da Vinci's over all work is much better than Botticelli.
