No, you're not the only one who thought it was strange that "The Marriage of Figaro" is taken from the middle of the play. I think that you're idea is a good one, but my reasoning isn't quite so hmm....intellectual :) I figure that since Mozart had planned for the opera to be a comedy, maybe he simply believed that he could have more "fun" with that specific storyline.
