There is nothing illegal with the liberties that Covent Garden took with this production of "Die Fledermaus" because, even if it was under copyright to Strauss (but I don't think that the idea of copyrighting goes back that far), it would have expired by the time this video was recorded. The same would go for "The Blue Danube Waltz." In fact, while I didn't notice the aforementioned song in the opera, I wouldn't be surprised that it was because it would add to the "Strauss-ness" (if that's even a word) that the opera was stripped of when they played with the character Alfred, although, I enjoy how they portray
Alfred(o).
