Subject: Surrealism

I'm very glad that our class trip to the Metropolitan Museum occured during the same time as the Surrealist exhibt (not to mention the Gentileschi one). I was very disappointed the last time I went to the museum because there were not any Surrealist paintings. I find Surrealism fascinating, it amazes me how someone could come up with the ideas for some of the paintings I saw. I was also thrilled to be able to see some Salvador Dali paintings in person, because he is my absolute favorite artist. I noticed a lot of people from the class saying that they found the works to be rather "disturbing," and while I don't disagree I do think that for some of them you have to give the artist credit for being THAT imaginative. I know I would never come up with the ideas for half of those paintings. And while some of them may not have any specific meaning behind them, I think sometimes its enough to have something to sit and look at. Just my two cents : )
