i have to agree with tony that charlie chaplin movies wouldn't be as funny if they weren't silent. i've always loved charlie chaplin, and i really enjoyed watching city lights. unfortunatelly i didn't see the whole movie, but someday i'll rent it and finish it. it certainly surpasses all other new comedies that are out there. i've always been interested in old movies, although at times i'm hesitant to watch them because i expect them to be boring or too cheesy and "conventional." i'm really looking forward to this part of the course (as long as the movies don't turn out to be like the older version of dorian gray, which the english ap class watched last year. yet even if they seem boring, classic movies have an innocence, compared to today's movies, that i think is quite appealing. i hope the movies we watch in class will surprise me.
