Argyris himself says he does not know of a single organisation using model2 rules. This is rather a dismal record! However, in more academic form, you can look at Complex Responsive Processes in Organizations by Ralph Stacey. It challenges mainstream thinking (Argyris and co) on learning and mental models. Look at the bit on Autopoietic systems. Not a simple text, but well argued and mind expanding.
