Yeah, too bad it wasn't the Mets!

I can understand why fans for other teams might get irritated with the Yankees but this one year, I ask some forebearance. Frankly, I get the feeling that this city and this area need something like this at this moment. Maybe I'm just reading something into it that isn't there but there is a little more to the chanting in the stands, the way you now get 55,000 people all singing The Star Spankled Banner or God Bless America or New York, New York. The city that everyone else in this country loves to hate was kicked in the groin for symbolizing what the country stands for. The people still buried in the rubble weren't attacked for being New Yorkers, they were attacked for being Americans, just like the people in the Pentagon, the people on the plane that crashed or the people now being infected.

There's real emotion to work here I haven't seen before. It isn't about being Yankee fans, it's about being New Yorkers and Americans. In some ways, it's about being resilient and being proud of being King of the Hill, as a city and as a country.

Besides, the Diamondbacks will probably win.
