Subject: Koodos to your daughter, Midnite!! I let my kids decide what they want to listen to or watch but give my opinion when I feel it's needed. My daughter thinks Eminem is to die for and couldn't wait to see "*Mile". IShe borrowed it and she and her dad and I sat down to watch it. About 10 mins into it she said it was boring. I was about to turn it for cos of the language. She shocked me!!
In reply to: Midnight 's message, "My 11 year old called me from a sleepover party last weekend and asked to be picked up. Seems the "mom"-in-charge thought R-rated thriller movies were appropriate for a group of 10-11 year old girls. I don't allow that in my house and would especially not allow it unless I informed the other parents and had permission. I need your advice. Am I too protective, or are they too permissive? I think the fact that my daughter called and came home speaks volumes, but would like an outside, adult opinion. Thanks Buds." on 10:02:10 10/10/03 Fri

  • You are absouluty not too protective or out of line. I just this year let my girls watch PG13 movies. You must be doing something right if your daughter called you when she felt something was wrong. I had a similiar situation before my kids were allowed to watch PG13 where my daughter made the mom call me before she would watch the movie they were going to show. I was very proud of her, as I'm sure you were of yours. (NT) -- Lisa, 23:49:32 10/15/03 Wed

  • Thanks for the reassurance and encouragement, Vicki & Lisa. Sometimes, it's hard to be the "strict" parent in a world that is soooo permissive. I don't want to shelter my kids too much, or they'll be blindsided when they do go out in the world. But at the same time, I want to make sure they have had a foundation to build on so their house of cards doesn't get toppled in the wild wind. (NT) -- Midnight, 13:53:20 10/19/03 Sun
