I think that I will be recruiting for a vassal soon because I want to give back what my good patrons have given to me since I've come to Thistledown.
Here are some of the things that my good patrons have taught me/did for me (please note that this is not in order of importance)...
SOLARAN
* When I was a newb, he taught me the portal loops. This was actually a project that he gave me - I HAD to learn them. Of course this was helpful to him because he didn't have to come portal me everywhere :) and it was helpful to me, too.
* He taught me the value of fear when you're burdened and running from the Lighthouse to Fort Tethana.
* Sol is the person that taught me that the character that you build should be the character that you want to play, no matter the template, no matter what other people say... YOU define how you will have fun in this game.
* Whenever I've gone for a new atlan, when I needed help to buff O'Poe for his composite bow, Solaran's been there to throw the buffs on me.
* Body recoveries, body recoveries, body recoveries. =)
DR GOLDENSWORD
* Doc taught me how to build a character.
* He takes the time to find out how I'm doing, to ask if I need help, to just chat.
*If I want to go somewhere to do something specific, Doc goes above and beyond the call of duty to go do that with me. I don't think (hehehe, I hope) that this is because I'm asky or demanding for a vassal - I certainly don't want to be! - but because he's interested in spending time with me.
* Body recoveries, body recoveries, body recoveries.
* When I started hunting for motes for my atlans, Doc made a deal with me: I come up with a bar on my own, he'll provide the second bar. Now, of course I don't need this kind of assistance any longer (although, maybe with shards ;)), it was a great way for me to make goals and to know that he was interested in my progress.
* He hands down armor that he's just grown out of to his vassals.
* Doc invites me to fight with him on a fairly regular basis. There are many, many patrons who don't do this.
* I would be amiss if I did not mention all of the powerleveling he's helped me with. He's very helpful and waaaaaay too generous :)
* He's stuck by me, even when I have gotten into trouble. I appreciate that more than he'll ever know. In return, I offer my undying loyalty.
SLOTKNIFE
* Slots taught me the Chakron, its ins and outs. He taught me how to lead quests successfully.
* Like Doc, he's very generous and I appreciate this very, very much.
* He knows quite a bit about me, too, that could have driven him away, but he's stuck by me. For that, I will strive to make him proud in one way or another.
* He's another one of the best template creators on Thistledown. Between him, Doc, and Lenin Tkarsa, I will always have the best resources for character creation - or sounding boards to bounce ideas off of - on Thistledown.
* He's a good friend.
* Slotknife is committed to generating interest in the Bears. He encouraged me to get the message board going for them.
LENIN TKARSA
* Again, here's a brilliant template master.
* Lenin has been very generous to me, many times offering the shirt off of his back. I tend to be fairly independent, as he and Doc probably know firsthand, but it's good to know that if I ever need anything, he's someone to ask for help.
* He encouraged me to make use of the Blurrian resources (i.e. message boards, etc.) and make friends within the monarchy. This was done not only directly, but also indirectly by asking me to take care of his account while he was in boot camp. I think that, had it not been for that, I probably would still not really know anyone there because I've been doing a lot of solo stuff lately.
* Again, he's been a good friend and stuck by me. Again, in return, I will do the same for him.
* When I have a concern, I can voice it. He'll answer. When I want to talk, I can, he's there.
* He's a good friend.
* He's concerned for the development of my characters and has sworn active, quickly leveling characters to two of my characters to help me - and himself too - out.
GREY FOX
* Grey swore O'Poe to Ilu, raising her almost single-handedly to level 20 (she did a lot of fighting, but without his direct pass-up, she'd be much lower in level).
* He gave me his best weapons for Ilu to use, leaving him with substandards, just because she was his vassal.
* He listens.
* He's been very, very faithful to me.
* When he was afk for a couple of months, he gave me his account, giving me the opportunity to taste what it was like to fight at higher levels, specifically with different types of characters.
* Grey Fox helped me get familiarized with Ayan Baqur.
* He's a good friend.
* Body recoveries, body recoveries, body recoveries.
As you can see, many of the things which have made the relationships that I have with each of my patrons are the same, so there is definitely a common thread. And, taking the things that I have learned from these PHENOMENAL patrons, I hope to be able to employ what I have learned from them - and some of my own ideas, as well - with my vassal.
What do YOU think makes a good patron?
