Jerry Palm's Women's Site

http://collegerpi.com/women/

#11 facing Iowa St. in Bowling Green, KY

Surprise is that upcoming Marist opponent Hartford not in the field. Boston U. project as a 14 seed is the AE rep in Palm's initial bracket.

I'd take an 11 seed. 12 would be nice too. Lets us play the underdog but keeps the girls away from the 1's and 2's. If another trip to the Sweet 16 is in order, that'd be the easiest path. Of course I'd just be happy with another NCAA berth and whatever happens after that is gravy.

Sometimes it's so easy to let that sense of entitlement creep into your thinking when it comes to the ladies. It's been a great run over the past 5 years, and similarly, how easy is it to forget despite all the preseason hype and mid season appearance in the AP Poll, that this year's team is in the rebuilding mode. They lost more than most teams ever had.

When they play a close game people scratch their heads. When they lose a game in their own league its news and blog fodder. http://maacbball.blogspot.com/2009/01/fairfield-women-hope-for-more.html But, still they wear it very well.

Heck we even have a fan of a certain men's team posting that their fav is now the best team in the MAAC. High praise indeed despite the gender confusion.

The nice long break between a Sunday at St. Peters and Manhattan on Friday should help Viani and Caron get their legs back and, for bench depth and some muscle, hopefully Stallings as well. In the meantime maybe the staff can figure out how to duct tape point guard rotation together without disabling the 2 like happened against FF.

No time like the present to get the ball rolling down hill with a tough closing stretch against top half opponents (including the "we won't get fooled again" rematch at FF) and the near bracketbuster game at Hartford and the chance for redemption on the deuce.

Saying they are better than us, etc. Didn't they learn the first time. Couple of their fans are saying Marist women should have fallen farther after losing to Fairfield, etc as they fear we may get an at large over them if we both lose our conference tourneys. I hadn't checked over there for a long time, but did recently. Kinda funny Marist is still on their minds. Good fans though.

Got to love MTSU's OOC schedule and there are probably more quality wins available in their league year in and year out than the MAAC with teams such as Western Kentucky, UA-Little Rock and South Alabama, but please don't demean Marist for losing to "nobody" Fairfield, when your own team spit the bit against Western Carolina, themselves featuring losses to teams with RPI's of 274 and 250.

I don't blame them for complaining about their low standings in the current bracketology, but the 6 they are looking for is a bit optimistic. They probably need to win out to be in the mix and hope that some of the other middies stumble, South Dakota State in particular.

Hartford, by the way, beat UVM by four points. I watched some of the game on tv, and in the first half they didn't look very impressive to me. i guess they took over in the second half, but still, as long as marist is rested and gets their shots down, it should be a good win.
