I'm Mexican that's why I'm very interested on this song, I've found out some information about it, it was obvious that the song's about Mexico or US, because of the Rio Grande, and at last I found something that helped me so much, I read a book ( don't remember the name though ) where Björn wrote that he had found inspiration in Mexican Revolution to write this song! Mexico's revolution took place on November 20th 1910 and it's a very interesting story of my country, Fernando is a very popular name in Mexico and Latin America and Spain, so it's obvious that this Fernando was Mexican, and he was fighting for Mexico's freedom, that's why the song says: I can see how proud you were to fight for freedom in this land, "this land" is Mexico...
Besides, if you watch the video, you'll see the 4 members wearing traditional Mexican songs :) I hope this helps!!!!
