First, are you testing the latest version 2.01?

The antialiasing should be quite fast. I suspect you are combining this with zoom to selection. Zoom to selection has limits because if the selection is small, it requires creating a very large display image. There is an upper limit on the zoom factor at 1000%. If the image is already large, this creates an even larger display image. I suspect this is related to your first and second question.

For the image editor, sorry I don't have any code to help.
