But apart from the Port game, on every measure he is significantly down on last season. And that isn’t even accounting for his disposal efficiency which is way down.

JDG is our best player (along with Nick). The best mids like Bont etc deal with teams trying to close them down. We need JDG to find a way also more consistently if we are to reach the level of last year. Part of that will be giving him more support.
