Subject: i would drop Lippa for the reasons already stated, however
In reply to: collinwoodj 's message, "It absolutely baffles me this take on Lippa..." on 11:50 26/04/24 Fri

if you want a 'softer' blow cos of sensibilities then, as posted a few weeks ago, i reckon our balance forward aint right

Lippa started sub in the GF and Ginni effectively came into the line-up to replace Adams. There was a strong argument, at least in my head, to play Noble as the sub (albeit i would have started Noble forward in 22 instead of Ginni ..but that's just me).

Anyhow, end of last year, Lippa was borderline, had been moved to sub and could have been dropped altogether. Should surgery etc etc, sure i get it. He's improved this year but I still don't think he offers enough and hasn't improved his physicality IMHO.

That aside, we're now playing all 4 of Bobby, McCreery, Schulz and Lippa in the starting 22, effectively as small forwards and, for mine, that's 1 too many and means the forward or forward /on-ball mix aint right. In last year's GF we had Bobby, McCreery and Ginni (3) starting in the 22 ..or if Adams had been fit it would have been Bobby, McCreery and Adams (3), with Adams starting forward and playing minutes on-ball as an inside and CSA capable player.

This year, we're playing 4 smalls and that Adams role has been replaced by either Schultz or Lippa, depending on which 2023 line-up you want to use as a baseline. Either way, neither of those players are playing any time on-ball and Lippa certainly would NOT be an option as a starting CSA player (for mine). He adds to our existing problem - Mitchell, Pendles, Sidey - all lack pace and are all playing in or near the Centre Square.

So take your pick, Lippa or Schultz need to make way to play someone like Sullivan cos our CS work was at the heart of most of our problems (yesterday). When all other teams in the comp are increasing their CS rotations we're going the other way ..Mitchell (slow), JDG, Nick, Pendles (slow), Crisp (out of form) are the mainstays and then we supplement with Sidey (slow & out of form), Josh (too small).

In 2024 (compared to '23), we're also now relying on f50 turnovers - rather than D50 transition - to generate most of our score. This requires players that have speed to close space /pressure and aggression to commit & stick tackles, neither of which are in Lippa's sweet-spot.

Like i said, I'd make the change(s) for the reasons stated cos IMO it'd deliver a better balanced team with a better chance of winning the next couple of games.

Fly made some tough'ish (& correct) calls lat year re Ginni, Noble, Cox and WHE, dropping them at various times when their individual performances weren't up to scratch and/or team perf was flagging. Fascinated to see how he approaches the next few ..
