Subject: I don't think we're that far removed from the Cats and Swans model.

We hit a bit of a talent void post 2013 once the likes of Swan, Didak, Jolly, Johnno, Cloke, Maxwell, Krak and Taz.

The two H.'s in Shaw and Lamumba got traded out due to general sanity issues.

Thomas, Wellingham and Beams defected.

Big hole to fill through 'topping up' or succession planning without many high picks, particularly with the expansion teams coming in and us being quite successful from 2007-2013.

Ultimately, we had to bottom out for a bit in the mid 2010's and we hit the draft for some mediocre success, but still got some guns in JDG, Moore, Maynard and Grundy, as well as some good recruits like steak-knives Crispy, Adams, Treloar and Howey. We were a few extra petrol tickets from a flag in 2018, so we didn't exactly "bottom out".

2021 was an aberration really, with the issues at the top causing instability.

Stability in coaches and general game style is important, as it allows for succession recruiting, which the Swans and Geelong have had and done well at. I think we're doing that better now with more certainty in the types of players we want.

Within Hine's reign, we've made the finals 13 out of 20 years, 2 flags, 4.5 grannies and plenty of prelims and finals. We're well above average as a club.
