Find an equivalent and it was Buckley’s decision to try something quite different by using an undersized ex SANFL winger at HB , that put us back on the front foot
So kudos to Bux there but McFly has really built up from there
Murph was mainly injured in the Bux era and I have a clear recall that some posters here were in the “ delist him “ camp
When first tried in Defence there was this criticism and that but one thing that wasn’t lacking was raw endeavour
Turning to the current defensive batch
Moore - very few Collingwood Full backs have possessed his mix …great high mark, long accurate kick, he is assertively rebounding and he is quick enough to play on a wing . Name a better full back or Centre half back in the last 50 years ?
Billy Picken was close
Moore would leave Kelly in his dust for speed and endurance pluse he would always out mark him
At Half Back surely we have one of the best all round medium tall footy talents ever seen at the Club in Howe. He is the entire package and may have been a star forward too had this club possessed the personnel to make the move …but he was too valuable and Langers departure accentuated this need
Maynard ( and I am perfectly entitled to this view ….plus look at the Maynard’s goals clips on the Club site if you doubt this ) could have been a star anywhere but we needed him in defence and he has been wonderful there
So that’s three potential all time Pie stars in defence
Nobes adds the dash and dare . Being dual sided and a generally penetrate and accurate kick is a huge plus
IQ initially looked a mix of aggro, hungry, dashing, strong marking and in particular surprisingly good above his head . Initially some posters were taking him up as a possible future mid . That’s gone quiet for now. I am not a fan of his “ please spoil me “ type kicking and you wonder who is thick there not to realize and change this ….in fact months after I’ve commented about this , v North …there seemed to be a change in elevation . No one else thinks he’s uncertain in ball handling nor below the knees ? I must be imagining it . I’ve also noted that his overhead marking has dropped off and he takes his eyes off the ball in the air …why ?
Dean …work in progress but please who are we comparing him to ….the Premiership winning finished product that was Murphy ? Or Tigers Grimes or who. ?
We were patient with Murphy as we have been with so many others
Dean can make it

Oleg is gifted athletically and spirited . You nurture players with that mix . They can perform on the big stage

In the VFL we are playing a skinny second year player Ryan in defence . Why ? Even at this distance he looks too lean. He is a winger HFF type who needs building up
Long might be used in defence . Tall strong and mobile
Allen ( imho) should be played off HBF
Eyre should be employed in defence
Parker should be developed as a running Defender

Just my thoughts
