Subject: It’s worth remembering from that speech that he only played 30 games in 1st 4 yrs

Started in defence ….like a couple of others who became star on ballers …SSB and Michael Taylor ( who was 27 on arriving from SA , intending to play just one season but stayed for 4 and later returned as an assistant coach )

Swannie offered that MM was the one who identified his unusual “ burst” play capacity . He could execute a scintillating burst of play , come off , rest for 2 minutes and was ready for another burst .

It says much about Swan’s character that he stuck fat at CFC when , in turn, his close footy pals from the Rat Pack either left , were traded ( Rhys to Swans) or retired . Taz had gone and returned . Johnno and Dids retired , the one time golden haired boy Daisey followed his father figure coach to Carlton ( and I wonder whether he has moments of regret there) and sadly , the Collingwood thru and thru Heater went to GWS . The realisation that there was just “ him” left must have been hard to swallow …but he excelled still .
Interesting that it was Taz’s ( and maybe BJs ) example of work in the Gym which inspired his training routines.

The other ( slap in the dial to anti booing Journos and some quoted Club officials suggesting in 2023 that booing was “unsportsmanlike “ ) Swan offering was to thank those who supported him and the team but also those who hooted and abused him ….Swan saying that he loved their passion even if he was the target !
At last some common sense . Thanks Swannie !
