Many's the time in the past where I'd be jealous of another team's wunderkind. Judd's opening seasons immediately spring to mind. Remember O'Meara's start prior to blowing out his knee? Or Ablett Junior once he extracted the digit.

We had Pendles who came on pretty quick, but nothing like this. Buckley exploded onto the scene but as a 20 year old myself, I didn't appreciate what sort of career was about to unfold.

So we've got a 21 year old threatening to be one of, if not the best we've had. He's diligent, mature and respectful as well and not some Ian Botham wannabe. He's an emerging ornament to the game. 2.5 years into his career so what's that... 1/6 of the way down already? I'm enjoying every minute of the ride because that remaining decade or so will fly by.

I can get why oppo fans would be talking him down. It kills them to see him pick up the team and carry it on his young shoulders to victory after last gasp victory.

Strange that a Pies fan can't even let the lid off a bit though. Can't win a flag every year so it's the highlights and the stories that fill in the in betweens that get you through. Life is its own reward and not being able to get behind this kid just results in the beholder missing out.

That path leads to bitterness. The sort that finds comfort in talking down our generational star in the making and even referring to our premiership captain as 'a disgrace'
