Subject: Ginnivan ahead on most stats
In reply to: mjd 's message, "Clearly ahead? Schultz one goal less from fewer games…" on 18:17 14/09/24 Sat

I wanted to omit goals as a pure measure of effectiveness because, whereas Schultz was used almost entirely as a forward for the Pies, Ginnivan was also moved into Hawthorn's midfield rotation a few times this season, offering a point of difference from how he had been used at the Pies.

In terms of ball winning, Ginnivan averaged more disposals per game (16.5 to 12.2) than Schultz including an average of 10.2 kicks to 6.8 kicks.

We are not talking big numbers here, but in percentage terms, Ginnivan was able to find the ball more - even notwithstanding the previous observation that Ginnivan was utilised as a mid "at times".

Ginnivan was responsible fro delivering the ball inside 50, on average, 3.2 times per game as opposed to Schultz's 2 times per game.

And Ginnivan was able to average 5.4 contested possessions to Schultz's 4.0, as well as 5.8 score involvements to 4.8.

Schultz has him covered for tackles (3.8 per game to 2.7)

The bottom line, and this is more an observational statistic as opposed to a numerical one, is that Ginnivan also seems to have made a more significant contritubtion to the Hawthorn team than Schultz did for the Pies.

But we are only one season into the analysis, so I'm not that concerned.

Inside the club, the club haas been happy with the contributions Schultz has made and the "unnoticed " things that us outsiders may not see....so i'm prepared to say that each player brought something new to their teams.
