The issue with Collingwood has often been that - particularly in the times of salary caps and total player payments - we have probably not been able to fit a "big name" into our list/cap.

It's all good and well for a player to want to arrive at a destination club, but only if they (and/or their manager) see this as a "feasible option".

The acquisition of both Nick Stevens and Chris Judd by Carlton (when both also toyed with the idea of landing at the Pies and, in Stevens' case, was the much-preferred destination), are both cases where Collingwood was definitely a destination.

But - as with the acquisitons of Franklin and Tippet at Sydney, or Tim Kelly at WCE - the net result was no Flag despite the draw of the star to those shores.

I'm less worried about a "big name" draw than I am about outcome-driven results...and the fact is we flagged with a list that missed out on Steven and Judd in the first decade of the 2000's, and we flagged again in 2023 without said "big name" player arriving on our shores.
