Subject: So do recruiters from the following clubs also deserve the arse?
In reply to: Andrew 's message, "Picking HDM over Logan Morris. Surely has to be the nail in the coffin for Dekka doesn’t it?" on 07:56 22/09/24 Sun

I know you are looking at, and assessing, Hine on a long trend-line of what we've deemed to be some drafting failures.

However, in terms of the 2023 National draft, consider the following clubs (and their recruiters): GWS, Sydney, North, Adelaide, Carlton, West Coast

Each of the above teams picked up a player at the 2023 draft who has yet to play a senior game and who was taken before Logan Morris. GWS, in fact, has two such players.

There are other teams where the player taken before Morris has played 5 games or less (as opposed to Logan's 17 games....Geelong, North Melbourne (2 additional players with only 3 games credit each), and St Kilda.

Each of the above has yet to show whether they are even capable of playing senior AFL football and were taken ahead of Morris at the 2023 draft with a designated pick (I haven't included Adcademy or Father-Son picks in the above).

Geelong actually used pick 11 on a player who has played (to the end of the H&A season) a single game.

It's a very single-variable and small sample-set argument to make because I've counted 11 players across 8 different clubs (excluding the Pies) who were taken before Morris and who we cannot assess as to their lack of any exposed AFL form.

As a qualitative personal opinion about the player we took, what you've said might have been fair enough from an observational viewpoint.

But I think the jury remains out and the sample size of recruiters who chose not to select Logan Morris is pretty significant.
