However, if you've been a part of this forum for a long time, you will remember that Collingwood has also been pretty roundly chastised by some supporters for going down the path of trying to find an international "diamond in the rough" at the expense of foregoing talent grown here on our shores.

For example, the names mentioned previously, including Mooney, Dyas, Tohill and the like, together with the likes of McNamara (USA)have been called out by some supporters as involving to much "effort for return".

Some supporters are even somewhat concerned that the Pies are trying to find rookies who, though they might have played footy at an early age, have foregone that development to focus on an alternative sporting path (eg. crisket, basketball, etc).

Personally, I agree that we should look at this - and I reckon Collingwood DOES look at every avenue to try and either spot talent, or give it a list spot to see if anything develops.

And it also allows us to utilise spots that are reserved specifically for such "long-odds prospects"
