Subject: Nick, Jordy and Moore are all at or around peak.
In reply to: BN 's message, "Our best 7 players were from draft picks" on 07:02 27/09/24 Fri

We need better support around them.

Also, Jack Crisp might squeeze in the top 7.

Also, also, Perryman is better than mid range.

Also, also, also, what if in 2025 we do OK with Perryman and the effective pick is around 17 or 19 (which we got Oli Henry and Fin Macrae for in 2020)?

I'd argue a known AFL quantity who's still somewhat young and can contribute immediately is a real plus over the 'magic bean' approach.

That said, I think we can all agree that there is some danger in this strategy. Hawthorn's post-peak strategy was fraught (Mitchell, O'Meara and others) set them back ultimately with NQR types. But the Hawks didn't have Nick Daicos (still possibly not yet at peak), nor JDG and nor someone of Moore's ilk.

I'm with McRae and Pyeman on this. Attack the pointy end of the draft when you realise that you need to (like Dekka did in his early days and in the mid 2010's). Go for established players when you realise that you need to (ie. now!).
