essentially negating rather than prioritising intercepting. After the first three rounds when he received lots of criticism for being too loose, he settled into a spoiling machine role, hence being numnber 1 in league for spoils. It meant that while he was doing a much better job on opponents, we didn't get the same drive from him. In matches where he was allowed to play his favourite role or he eclipsed really good opponents like Curnow, we tended to win.

So we have to decide what we want from each of our defenders.

Maynard was also down and seemed a bit confused about his role at times.

Howe was patchy but came home well.

The defence played well as a team during the difficult run home and it improved our play overall.
