Subject: Geelong were miles ahead of everybody that year.

Ordinary year for closeness.

Us, Port, and Kangaroos were three of the final four -- not one of us were really near the Cats.

I actually believe 2006 is the miss.

It was something of a transitional year -- the Lions dynasty had come to a close, and Port had dropped off after their succession of minor premierships in the early 2000s.

It was also just before the Geelong dynasty begun in 2007.

Sydney and Eagles had played in the 2005 flag -- great game (for closeness), but neither was a real powerhouse of the league.

2006 looked much the same.

We were sitting 8 - 2, third on the ladder (equal second with Adelaide) and had just beaten Brisbane at the G.

However, that was the game where Blake Caracella's head was caved in.

Felt like that incident was a significant blow -- not necessarily in losing Carcella, but it was one of those injuries that really reminded players of their mortality.

Lost a lot of our zest after that.
