Was always Voss and Hird talked up as the best mids of his era.

In my very biased opinion (because he was my favourite player for a long time). Bucks was better than both of them. He was the complete package. Anything you can think of that you would love to see a player do on the field (screamer, freak goal, break the lines, lay bone crunching tackles, pipoint disposal, winning games off his own boot, etc) he has done it all at the highest level, repeatedly. You'd be hard pressed to find a weakness in his game.

And he was consistent over such a long time. He deserves his props as a player and should always be in the conversation for GOAT.

Pendles suffers the same fate. People forget that he was neck and neck with Ablett Jr in their primes. Ablett Jr gets the GOAT tag thrown at him. Pendles only gets that sort of love from Collingwood fans.
Perhaps he's also a victim of his own success. He has been so good for so long that it's not impressive anymore. It's expected. People are still shocked when he gets caught in a tackle, at 35 years of age! (albeit, it happens more these days than it used to).
The best compliments he receives is from commentators sitting in awe of other players who do something special and make a note that it's "Pendlebury like"... Scott has been "Pendlebury like" for nearly 20 years now!

They both deserve better.
