I agree, Annabelle
I'll go with a stereotype...but one that's born out of observation.
I played as a backman for about 30 years - all the good /great players there just "knew" what to do and when - regardless of instruction / coaching.
Great backmen aren't beaten until the ball goes through the sticks and they go hard at every contest.
Height, speed, yep, they're great, but I'll take defensive nous and instinctive players every time.
