First season was appalling. But the second season was a marked improvement. Then they improved for about the next three seasons.

But the AFL continued to introduce new teams, not only diluting the talent pool, but also weakening some of the existing teams (like Collingwood).

So now you have more teams, less capable players to fill them, and a drop in standard.

Add that to the AFLW teams being scheduled to play on suburban ovals subject to some pretty shitty conditions, poor fixturing, and a hodgepodge approach to the competition, and it's little surprise we get scores like this.
